VILLAGE OF FRANKFORT BUSINESS INCUBATOR
May 16, 2008
The Mohawk Valley has a past rich history of technology development. However, over the past decade, many of the big employers (GE, UNIVAC, Griffiss Air Force Base, etc.) have departed. Fortunately, a small but entrepreneurial cadre of technologists has remained and still calls the Mohawk Valley home. Many of these technologists have or will, under the right set of conditions, start their own businesses. The Frankfort Business Incubator was put in place to capitalize on that very situation.
Currently the Incubator houses 3 businesses in the 2nd floor of the Village hall. The companies are all early stage companies with good potential for growth. The incubator program is key to maintaining low operational expense and focusing money on growth related strategies. These businesses are:
(1) WavHost Corp. is a wireless network and Internet service provider. The company has networks from the tip of Cape Cod to the western edges of the Finger Lakes with coverage in remote villages such as Star Lake. WavHost also provides for mission critical application design, deployment and operations of advanced wireless systems such as the first responder network in Elizabeth, NJ (fourth largest city in NJ). The company's headquarters is in the incubator and we also have offices in Penn Yan and Hyanis, Mass. WavHost currently has 9 employees (4 in Frankfort).
(2) jPronto Corporation is a developer of application software for the mobile device market. The company is in various stages of product development in the wireless retail shopping and gaming business sectors. Its products are advanced software systems in the rapidly growing use of wireless technology in these sectors of the economy. jPronto currently has 6 employees and plans to grow to 10-15 employees by the end of 2008.
(3) Everis Inc. is an optical network security company that is doing industry-leading research at the physical and data link layers of today's global networks. Presently the company is under contract with Rome Labs. Everis maintains a DoD clearance and employees 5 people (2 of which are PhDs).
